Try THESE next time you’re feeling “Stuck”….
Smart women get stuck each and every day.
And getting stuck is NORMAL (although you brain tells you otherwise).
So the name of the game isn’t to avoid life’s many roadblocks and challenges, but rather to learn how to maneuver through them more gracefully (and more quickly) each and every time.
So what can you do when you’ve hit a wall, and can’t seem to break free? What’s a smart, stuck woman to do?
My favorite, fastest way to shift out of “reverse” and into “drive” is by doing this simple exercise:
1. STATE ‘EM.
First, figure out where you’re stuck. Is it something small (but frustrating) like email distraction, internet addiction, prioritizing your to-do list or working on a challenging project?
Or is it something bigger – like financial troubles, job loss, a floundering relationship or health issues? Don’t worry: whatever the situation, I’ve found this exercise really works…
2. NAME ‘EM.
Next, think of someone you admire — especially someone who’s a superhero in the area where you’re currently struggling. This could be a celebrity, friend, mentor or cartoon character. (Whoever’s got it “goin’ on” in this area is fair-game.)
Got one in mind? Good…
Write their name down here, or on a piece of paper:
____________________________________________________________
(No, really. I’m serious… write it down – RIGHT NOW!)
3. BE ‘EM.
Then close your eyes and imagine that the person you’ve selected has been given carte blanche to invade your body. That’s right… step aside and let ‘em in!
Allow their energy, persona, confidence and clarity to flood through your entire body – leaving no wrinkle or freckle untouched.
And…Just for a moment…really BE this person:
(be…)
(be…)
(be…)
(be…)
4. HEAR ‘EM.
Now, go through the details of your troubles, and ask your “Guest” the following:
“What would THEY do in this situation?”
Then try on a few of the following questions by writing in your Role-Model’s name in the blanks and allow their energy to answer:
“What would ________________ do?”
“What would ________________ say?”
“Where would ________________ start?”
“How would ________________ feel?”
“How would ________________ do things differently?”
“What advice would ________________ give me right now?”
“How would ________________ change this situation?”
“What wisdom does ________________ have to turn this situation around?”
3. DO ‘EM.
Using the insights from Step 4, take a bold next step.
Heck… Let Oprah answer your emails. Make Lady Gaga tell your boyfriend the truth. Have Hillary Clinton ask your boss for a raise. Or invite Martha Stewart to clean your bathroom.
Just get out of the way… and let ‘em DO it!
Now, go try out this exercise today, and report your findings below in the “comments” box. I’m eager to hear who you selected for inspiration – and of course, your results!
In the meantime, I’ve gotta run… (Rachel Ray’s making me lunch).
