After working with hundreds of women, I’ve come to learn 1 thing: we simply can’t smell our own stinky-spots…
No matter how smart, wise or intuitive you are, there’s just no way around it. No person on the planet can clearly see their own inner junk piles.
I see it more often than I’d like: women who THINK they’ve got things handled, and have cleaned up their mental messes, but right on the end of their nose is a big ol’ glop of goo . . .
Grose.
So if you find yourself without an overflowing supply of clients, you’re likely doing one of the 3 classic guffaws below — REPELLING your ideal prospects, rather than attracting them.
So let’s take a look:
PEEEE-EEEEW #1: NEEDING clients
While it obviously takes customers to have a business, there’s a certain finesse to finding them — especially ideal ones. And while you may have been taught to go out there, pound the pavement, and bring back a fresh catch-o-clients… the more you NEED them, the less you’ll have.
That’s right. No matter if you’re flat broke, or living on the edge, you have to get yourself to a place where you don’t NEED clients, ever again.
Because, let’s face it:
Even if your intentions are good, when you NEED a client to close the deal, you’re looking at them like fresh meat — they become the “prey”, and you’re ready to pounce!
And we all know how downright icky that feels to be on the other side of that equation. (Blaaaahhhck!)
The thing that attracts clients is heart. Sincerity. Connection. Trust.
And that flies out the window fast when you’ve got gleaming dollar signs in your eyes like a deranged cartoon character.
No matter who you are, this law of the Universe always holds true:
For every action there is an equal and OPPOSITE reaction.
So, if you PURSUE clients, they will head for the hills. Every. Single. Time. The more you pull on their energy, they will push you away. (Or worse, RUN.)
Simple math says: Your energy going out = clients going away! “
Oh, but Stephanie: That’s NOT me. I’m not like that…”
Really?… Think again! We’re all guilty of this from time to time. But never you fear, it’s not so difficult to flip this scenario on its head. Try this…
FIX: Know that you’re Good-to-Go — with or without clients!
The only way to get great clients is to draw them in. Attract them. Inspire them. Be their poster-child for what’s possible.
Therefore: Chasing is no longer allowed.
Become a beacon for what they want, and let them step toward you instead. Get so still, centered, and confident, that they’re drawn to your magnificent radiance.
Think classic mother-nature scenarios: Bees to honey; moth to the light; humming bird to the flower; etc.
SIDE TIP: If you’re flat broke, or your money-freak-outs are way too powerful to push aside, it’s time to get a J-O-B. That’s truly the best fix to keep your financial woes from oozing out into your client interactions, and mucking up the mix.
PEEEE-EEEEW #2: Making it all about YOU
This next goof fascinates me the most!
When I look at most services, business names and websites, they’re all 99% about lil’ ol’ you — which translates to:
- Endless credentials on your “About” page
- Rambling about the cool tools + techniques you use to work your magic
- Testimonials about how wonderful YOU are (but very little about the results)
Even though you’re an empathetic, heartfelt and caring women, when it comes to communicating your message, you often throw all those traits out the window.
Without even knowing it, you end up making your focus all about Y-O-U.
(Trust me: I’ve been-there-done-that, too.)
So please don’t take offense to this, but:
NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No. Really. I’m serious…
When people are on a hunt for the solution to a burning problem, they could care less about you, and are focused entirely on their woes.
Picture it this way: Imagine you’re at a party and someone breaks down in hysterical, uncontrollable sobbing. Would you run right over and start telling them all about your educational background? Would you start sharing all the wonderful things people have ever said about you?
Of course not.
You’d run over and put your arm around the person. Comfort them. Love them. Connect with them. Make them feel less alone.
And… the SAME protocol goes for your prospective clients!
FIX: Make it ALL about your ideal client.
Listen to them, love them, connect with them, and give them what they want.
So if your ideal client were right there in front of you – what would you say to them? How would you treat them? What words of inspiration would you share?
Practice this approach in the mirror. Write it in your newsletter. Playing it out, over and over, until this way of being with prospects is totally 2nd nature.
That, my dear, is the authentic, heartfelt, intimate approach to giving your soon-to-be clients what THEY want.
PEEEE-EEEEW #3: Expecting others to do what YOU won’t.
Many female entrepreneurs run into challenges with pricing their services.
Specifically: they find it challenging to find folks willing to pay top-dollar for the awesome talents they possess.
And this often uncovers a sneaky stuck-spot: Women unwilling to invest in themselves at the same level (or more!) as their clients.
So, if you aren’t investing in yourself big-time, how the heck do you expect your clients to do the same?
When you’re unwilling to do for yourself what you expect from others, there’s 0 “Role-Model” energy to inspire them to step up, or take a risk.
This bummer does 1 of 2 things:
- Makes you an energetic mis-match with your clients and your goals.
- Causes you to show up in a whimpy, less-than-empowered way.
Either 1 will be a massive turn-off for prospective customers — sending them on their merry way to hand over those big bucks to the next person who shows a little chutzpah. (Money that COULD have gone in your cute lil’ pocket.)
FIX: Take the leap, first.
Clients want to know that you’ve got their back. They want to know that you’re confident about delivering the goods (literally, or figuratively).
So when you step up in your life — taking bold leaps, and investing in yourself —then people sense it. They know it. They feel it.
If you don’t get comfortable investing a whole heck of a lot in your business, you’re almost guaranteed to get stuck. And stuckness never ever ever feels very good.
So may these 3 areas above shed some light on your client-attraction qualities, and help you become a beacon for the most wonderful clients imaginable…
